Razzamajazz!
NWTs Premiere Jazz Ensemble

Razzamajazz! The Northwest Territories’ premiere jazz band.

Razzamajazz! is a vocal jazz group based out of the Canadian Arctic (Inuvik, Northwest Territories). Their sound is smooth and layered: a mix of original and jazz standards. "Northern Nights", their second CD, was released in January 2009 - the culmination of 7 years of playing and performing together in the Northwest Territories. It was recorded in Inuvik, mixed in Yellowknife and has a Northern flavour with original song titles such as: Hot Babe and Northern Lights and Meltdown.

Razzamajazz! formed in 2002, brings together the talents of Mike Whiteside on guitar, Bob Mumford on alto saxophone, Carrie Young and Miki O'Kane on vocals and percussion and Christina Wilsdon on keyboards. They bring to the stage their sense of humour, sophistication and the occasional impromptu tap dance! They continue to play across the Northwest Territories and plan to tour southern Canada in Spring of 2010. Look for their first CD, "The Sauna Sessions"  featuring original songs "40 Below" and "Flight of the Great Snowy Owl"at

It was April 2002 when saxaphonist Bob and guitarist Mike started meeting on a regular basis to play jazz. That fall they were joined by vocalists Miki and Carrie and a bass player and Razzamajazz! was born. Their debut performance was at the annual community Christmas concert in Inuvik's Igloo church. For the next two years they played many special events; including the Inuvik Petroleum Show, The NWT Tourism Conference and the Western Canada Premiers Conference as well as appearing regularly at the Cabin Lounge in the Finto Hotel. In 2003, 2004 and 2006 they performed at Folk on the Rocks in Yellowknife. In the fall of 2004 the bassist moved away but two weeks later the group met pianist Christina Wilsdon, who had just moved to town and has played with the group since. In March of 2005 they created a temporary recording studio in the Lion's Club meeting hall near Inuvik's scenic Boot Lake. They spent three sunny days and Aurora filled nights recording the "Sauna Sessions" which was released in Dec. 2005.
"Northern Nights" , also recorded in Inuvik was released in Yellowknife in January 2009 at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre.  The band performed to a crowd of Yellowknifers who braved a snowstorm to watch the show which included the talents of special guests Bill Gilday, Pat Braden and Jonathan Churcher..  Members of Razzamajazz! are currently  spread out across the North and Western Canada.  They will be reuniting for a short tour in Alberta this April 2010 .
